Walnut Date Ladoo

So today’s recipe was born out of the discussion I had with a group of friends and elders in family about all the nutritional deficiencies a vegan diet can cause. Isn’t it amazing till you declare you are a vegan nobody is worried about your diet and nutrition needs (you may be consuming tons of junk crappie foods full of chemicals, high in cholesterol, fats, sugar, absolutely no natural vitamins and antioxidants) All that doesn’t matter but lack of dairy and the world crumbles.
So the nutrients in question are protein, calcium, iron, Omega 3 fatty acids which in case dairy is stopped, will cease to exist. So just to prove my point I served this dish to this people when I met them the following time. All the above mentioned nutrients are readily available in a plant based diet too and we need zero dairy to achieve these requirements.
In the following recipe, I have used walnuts (rich in omega 3 fatty acids)
Red rice flakes and dates (rich in iron)
Sesame seeds (rich in calcium)
Oats and all above ingredients (good source of protein too). So if you consume 1 to,2 of these ladoos you get up to 30% of your daily requirements. And it’s a delicious and super easy to make dessert (bonus)
My kids 4 and 2 yrs of age are completely off dairy and are absolutely not deficient in anything (as per their blood work). As long as you are consuming all the food groups with all the colourful fruits and veggies be rest assured nutritional deficiency is the least thing to be worried about

  1. Roast walnuts, Poha, Oats, sesame seeds separately and powder them by grinding separately.
  2. Mix the all the powders together except for the Omani dates.
  3. Soften the Omani dates with your palms and mix it with powders thoroughly. Take your time and mix it well. Knead it well.
  4. Now make ladoos of this mixture. If it’s not binding well add a little more dates.
    Enjoy.
  5. P.S Specifically use Omani dates for this recipe.
  6. You can replace Oats flour with any other gluten free flour too.
Makes about 20 small size ladoos.
  7. For breakfast you can crumble 2 ladoos, add raisins, almond milk and have it as a bowl of cereal.
